Billion Hearts Beating Foundation organised a Heart Check-up Camp for the senior residents of Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram (SHEOWS) in Gautampuri, New Delhi on 9th January, 2018. The residents were offered general cardiac screenings for B.P, Sugar, B.M.I & E.C.G free of cost. Medicines recommended by the cardiologist were provided by the foundation after the camp.
In addition, the cardiologist highlighted the role of early diagnosis in the treatment of heart ailments and went on to elaborate how regular medical examinations are important, especially for the patients who are at a higher risk of coronary artery disease as they already suffer from diabetes, hypertension, obesity or hyperlipidaemia or have a family history of heart diseases. Further, he stressed upon the prevalence of heart diseases in the older population and the need to pay due attention to this stratum of society living in old age homes, who not only need medical care at regular intervals but require social support so as to fight any kind of physical or mental ailments and thus, camps like these help in alleviating the problems affecting the elderly who need compassion and support.
