World Heart Day was founded in 2000 by World Heart federation, to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading causes of death, claiming 17.3 million lives each year. To top it all, India is the Heart disease capital of the World, with CVDs accounting for about 25% deaths every year.
World Heart Day is celebrated every year on 29 September, to create awareness on Heart disease, its risks factors, and how it can be prevented through simple changes in daily life. It is a call to all people to take care of their heart and thereby prevent the onset of Heart disease.
On and around World Heart Day, Billion Hearts Beating spreads awareness on heart health through various workshops, events and health checks in old age homes, schools and corporate each year.
